Belated Email - Temple Pday edition

Hello Yall! This is late bcuz of my temple Pday! Sorry your weekly scheduled program was changed but life is all about change so whatever. Enjoy!

🎶Play me a song, your a piano man🎶

I had a private interview with President Clawson and towards the end of our interview he asked if I thought sister Churchill was actually good at piano because if he asked her she would be gracious and say no but I told him the truth that shes good! So after our interview, he asked her to play in front of 4 missionaries plus president on the spot! She told me she afterwards that she was so nervous and that makes total sense😆 What made matters “worse” is after that, president asked to play heart and soul with her and president told her to improvise her part😨 I could never play the piano in front of people like that but she was a pro!

Bussing & walking

We have been forced to think more creatively about how to get around our area because its too big for bikes but almost too small to bus so we have adjusted our strategy to be in one part of our area one day, and and another part of our area on another day. So this day, we spent it on the left side by the mall and walmart. It took an hour to bus to the mall but then we spent the rest of the day there till members drove us home🥳 

Our members are so willing to drive us places bro! A lot of them are retired and have served senior missions so they understand what we do in a day and they are just so nice and willing to help. It feels like having a bazillion sets of grandparents or something.

Got called by my 1st name

When im doing something on my phone (productive or not lol), I get sucked in and become even more unaware of my surroundings and sister Churchill has definitely taken note of this. So while i was updating pmg, she called me by my first name to get my attention and it legit startled me😭 It was so weird hearing my first name, I must be a real missionary now😉

After dinner, we had plans to knock this apartment complex that looked like it hadn't been knocked before so we walked 30 minutes over just to realize it hasn't been knocked because you need a code to get in😭 we tried two other building to find that they were locked too, and then finally we found condos to knock. We ended up getting an NPT tho!

Flex ride is the goat

Maybe they have this in FL but Flex ride is literally the best!😭🙏 It's a bus you can call to pick you up from anywhere in town to take you anywhere in town. So we can call flex ride to drive us from our apartment to the church building for a 10am pick up and can schedule up to 4 rides a day so we could ask them to pick us up later from the church building to the walmart at 11:15am! The best part is that its 🤑FREE🤑! Since sister Churchill and I are 19, we are technically teenagers and Colorado has a policy where youth 19 and under ride free on public transportation. I feel so blessed to have this available to us and while being without a car sucks, we have been blessed with SO many alternatives.

I told sister Churchill that I reached 100 days in colorado and after we got home and I was getting ready for bed and stuff, she made homemade hot chocolate, microwaved some popcorn, and wrote on our white board things she loved about me to celebrate the little milestone. I felt so loved by her, and I feel so loved by her!

Made sister Churchill mad😅

She never gets mad but I ticked her off a bit because I took forever to get ready that day and especially because it was zone conference and the STLs were picking us up, I stressed her out for being so late. I apologized and im working on getting ready faster, I swear!🙌

Sister Churchill needs a guitar

Because sister Churchill is so awesome, she OBVIOUSLY plays the guitar on top of piano and her many other practical talents. She unfortunately did not bring her acoustic guitar with her on the mission but after zone conference she was able to play someone else's guitar while gathering! So my new goal is to help her make sure she gets a guitar one way or another.

Dinner with MacCabes - patriarchal questions 

We had dinner with the stake Patriarch in Boulder! We asked him a lot of questions about how he prepares for a patriarchal blessing, how many he's done, and other questions like that. Ive never been able to have dinner with a patriarch to ask questions like that but it was super cool and he was open to answering mine and sister churchills questions! My favorite thing is when people let me ask questions so it was a good time for me haha.

Brazilian gave us a punk book

We knocked on this guy's house but before we did, I noticed a huge Iron Maiden (heavy metal band) banner inside his house and a bunch of music equipment because his blinds were all wide open. When we knocked and invited him he was polite and said no and we just kept knocking. Later, he ran back into us and he gave us this book! He explained that he wrote it himself and it talks about how Iron Maiden saved his life because he grew up in an area where everyone was religious and didn't like him because of his “satanic music” and that made him very depressed but listening to Iron Maiden ended up saving his life. He insisted on giving us his book so sister Churchill pulled out a Book of Mormon and made it more of a trade. Idk if he will read it but we unfortunately cannot read his.☹️

Crazy amount of stop bys

So we are expected to stop by all of our friends Sunday morning before church so we can do EVERYTHING in our power to go to church. We stopped by at least 6 people, which is a lot to me, but none of them came lol. Some didnt respond, some gave excuses, some had genuinely good reasons, but yea it wasn't from a lack of trying! Shout out to my STLs for driving us to all of our stop bys.

Nap @ the mall & teenagers that swore so much

After church, we were dropped off at the mall to do comp study and then we had our “lunch break” (we were fasting) so I took a nap😁 Before my nap though, sister Churchill started talking to these two girls sitting across from us and they told us so much tea about their school😵‍💫 They talked about how someone can find all sorts of drugs and other crap at their school and how crappy the school is. We didnt invite them to church cuz it didnt seem like the right moment but it was clear to me that they and the rest of their school need Jesus.

Hour & a half lesson w Aaron 

Aaron is a guy who was picked up last transfer and we've been continuing to work with him. He is very logical, very methodical, and a very cool guy! Because of that, our lessons go very long! We've been trying to work on it but yea; I love that he has such a deep desire for knowledge and he wants to know the deeper meaning behind everything! He will make the best convert if we can help him get baptized. So pray for Aaron!

Capeners dinner

Our ward is mostly old people but the Capeners are 1 of like 4 couples that are in their twenties lol. Brother Capener in particular is our ward mission leader so it was cool to get to know them both! Sister Capener works for Crocs and she specializes in Crocs that are Disney themed so the Capeners keep asking me about Disney😂 They feel bad that they do so but I think its funny and I expected it too before coming on my mission.

Got tim on date

We had the Capeners join us for our lesson with our friend Tim who we met last week while knocking! On our first contact with Tim, we invited him to church and also talked about baptism and he seemed quite open to it! So we had our first lesson with him a few days ago, and this one tonight we put him on date for the 8th! He hasn't been to church yet so he NEEDS to come next week and the following in order to get baptized so please pray for him!

Okay I am feeling quite lazy and I could talk about this week up until my temple pday but I want to call my family so imma write the rest on monday😁
