Jeffery R Holland talked about me😁
At the Christmas devotional, he talked about how everyone wants to be home for the holidays and a lot of people can't, college students sometimes but definitely missionaries. Then I think he said Joseph and Mary also weren't able to be home for the holidays, so that was cool to hear about and especially be talked about by Jeffrey R Holland.
Us watching the Christmas devotional
Okay, Good morning! Im starting writing my email at 7:54am mountain time so I dont forget to write it during the day😅
People we are teaching:
Eboni and Eliylah
Eboni is Eliylahs mom, Eliylah is 12 and currently not baptized so we get to teach her! Her mom loves us but not our ward, so during christmas break they are going to Missouri where their family is, to baptize Eliylah. We talked to our mission president about this situation and he said we need to coordinate with the missionaries in Eboni's home ward so we can complete the baptismal form here in Colorado.
Sandra
We asked her to get baptized and she said yes but realized she had some word of wisdom things she felt like she couldn't / didn't want to quit. This lead to her not going to church the following Sunday but we are continuing to teach her and she ended up coming to our ward Christmas party of Friday and church this past sunday! Im disappointed shes not ready for baptism but shes making slow progress. Shes reading the chapters in the Book of mormon we ask her to, shes praying everyday, and she watches the Christmas devotional along with coming to church and the ward christmas party.
Stanley
We dropped him for like one second basically because he was busy for a while and when we sent him a drop text, he replied saying he still wants to learn more and is available now! He came to the ward Christmas party, we taught him on Saturday, and church yesterday too! We extended the baptismal invitation to him when we taught him and he said he would like to get baptized but doesnt want to pick a date just yet. It's a bummer but hes still interested and making commitments so thats all that matters
We've also got some other people we are teaching but the lessons haven't happened yet lol
Learning and Growing:
We just now learned how to daily plan😅
We got in trouble with the sister training leaders (STLs) and zone leaders (ZLs) for our lack of planning. They noticed a 20 minute gap in our day and thought it had to do with us as a companionship but we just dont know how to properly plan lol. Sister graham said her trainers would usually plan for the both of them and then shes been in slow areas so her skills were sufficient but Aurora is BUSY! We have 14 people we are teaching or trying to teach right now so it's a lot of people to manage. We ended up asking the STLs to help us daily plan and they did! Typically missionaries have to leave their apartments by 10am and they left their apartment to get to ours by 9:30am😭 It was so nice of them to sacrifice their morning to help us! They helped us daily plan for one day and wrote down in depth details in my notebook on how to daily plan for our area. We have been doing super good and I believe thats why we had such great success in find people and inviting them to church events! I think God sees we can handle it now and is giving us more people.
The weather:
It snowed!
I think it was December 3rd that it snowed the night before and HOLY COW😇🐮 it felt like so much to me but it was probly 3 inches of snow which probly isn't much lol. It was so crazy walking to the gym that morning bcuz snow was falling while we were out!
I also drove that day which was super cool too
From my experience, it wasn't scary at all because they salted the roads. Salting the roads before it snows doesnt let snow to build up so the roads were wet but not filled with snow so it was like driving after rain.
We saw someone got into some kinda crash tho right outside our apartment complex because they slid on the ice! It was wild to me
What we wrote on the snow of people's cars
And it's been a few days since it snowed and I find it super interesting how the snow is melting
Because the snow is still here after many days but you can tell which spots on the ground see the sun. The spots that are shaded all the time still are icy and have snow
And like in FL the shade doesnt make that much of a difference but it makes a HUGE difference here because of the lack of humidity. In the shade, its like at least 5 degrees colder! It's nice during the summer probly but not right now, I love living in the sunshine.
My comp:
Sister graham and I didn't get along very well the first two weeks (it was my fault), but now we get along great! I know this because shes started punching me😂 Shes becoming more physical like fake slapping me in the face or shoving me when I being stupid. I am also a physical person so its been really fun for me when I press her buttons😁
This is her annoyed at me lol
Today's agenda:
First we got to sleep in 🥳
We did our daily planning last night so we slept in till 7:30am😂 One whole hour!
I called my parents for a bit which was lit
Then we got ready and drove to a chapel 20 minutes away for sister closet!
It's a thing in our mission (other missions too maybe idk) where all the sisters every 6 weeks bring all the clothes they don't want and put them on a table for other sisters to grab if they want them. Sister sweetnam is the one who puts this together. She also cuts hair during sisters closet! It's pretty cool, I got a skirt, pair of pants, and a long sleeve shirt
After that we went with President Clawson and other missionaries to the U.S. mint in denver!
There's 6 mints around the U.S. so it was a unique opportunity to see how the U.S. makes coins! They said they way they make their money is by selling the coins to the U.S. treasury is think. Also I learned the penny was discontinued?? It makes total sense but I feel dumb for not knowing till now because they stopped producing it before my mission lol
They also gave us a penny produced in 2025 and a blank penny! Super cool
Once the tour was done, President Clawson took us all to an Italian restaurant a few minutes away and paid for all of us missionaries😵💫 I dont know the exact amount but I imagine it was a lot! Hes and attorney and has other people running his firm or whatever while hes away in Colorado being a missionary president so hes pretty loaded I imagine. Hes also super nice about it too, he doesnt boast or anything and he takes opportunities to do fun things especially if they're free
Okay so we went to the Denver museum of nature and science after food and it was fun! We went because president told us about it and it was free today! They do that occasionally on random days and it landed on a pday so we HAD to use this opportunity
Us at the museum
Then we went to our leasing office in called my family again and downloaded Christ centered christmas music of varying genres. Those genres were jazz, bossa nova, folk, and reggae hehe. Ya girl misses rock especially but its hard to feel the spirit when I've got loud guitars and drums blaring so these will do.
And now were planning our lesson for sandra which we are having at 7:30pm tonight then we will go knocking until its time to go home!
But yea there's my update! Let me know if yall have any questions about missionary life or wanna tell me about your life!
Oh also! Sister Gable in my home ward has been awesome because she only posts on her story so I get to see all the updates on her life and my ward at home! I saw they had the ward christmas party and I wish I was there so badlyyy. But its okay! Im having fun here😁
Okay love ya!
